What will my student learn in Level 3?

Your student will learn exciting new concepts, including the jobs of Silent E, new phonograms, and methods for decoding multisyllable words – and continue to establish a firm foundation for a lifetime of learning. Every component of reading is taught: decoding (phonics and structural analysis), vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Below is a sampling in each area. For the full list, click here.
Decoding (Phonics)

 Learn phonograms AI, AY, OA, IR, UR, OO, EA, IGH, TCH, DGE, EW, WR, KN, EIGH, OE, and TI

 Read words containing the new phonograms, such as paint, play, boat, third, purple, soon, mean, light,
match, budge, flew, wrong, know, sleigh, toe,
and action

 Read words with Pickle syllables, as in bubble and table

Decoding (Structural Analysis)

 Identify base words

 Read words with vowel suffixes, as in fastest, and consonant suffixes, as in gladly

 Read words with prefixes, as in mistake

 Learn syllable division rules for reading multisyllable words

Vocabulary

 Discuss new words in the context of the story and one’s own life

 Understand homophones
