We are using Level 1 and we just completed Lesson 4 last night. We are using AAR1 as an afterschooling lesson, each night and then I read The Complete Tales of Winnie the Pooh by A.A. Milne to all four our kids.
My 7 year old, ADHD, dyslexia, speech disorder, held back one year in school and in resources classes for reading and speech- is excelling so far.
He is ENGAGED.
He is EXCITED to do his reading lesson.
He is EAGER to read the readers and to do well.
I held my breath as he did his 2nd fluency practice sheet, he had to sound out a few words but he got so many quickly due to the review built in. I told him, finish this sheet and your next lesson you can start reading in the reader book. He finished with pride!
Thank you so very much!!! I've spent the last 2 years trying so hard with him to read the readers the school sent home and both of us getting frustrated.
He loves the letter tiles, especially when we start making words. He loves the flashcard review, we have even had his 6 year old step-sister join in to do a 'challenge' of how fast they can go. The activity book is great with the different activities- he absolutely loved feeding the monster words!
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the open and go teacher's manual! I sometimes work until 7:15 and get home at 7:30pm. I can come home, do our lesson and read aloud to the kids in time to put them to bed on time.
So from the bottom of my heart- thank you for this program and I know for the first time in the last two years we are actually making true progress!

Last year I bought AAR pre reading with Ziggy for our 5th child when I saw it come up on the website. I bought it immediately! I didn't even think about it! The success that I had with AAS Level 1 [for my older children] was the clincher.
My youngest loved AAR pre reading and Ziggy and now is loving AAR Level 1. It s her favourite subject and begs to start each day with Ziggy and AAR level 1. The success we are having in our home with your curriculum is amazing. We love AAR!!

Just wanted to say thank you. I placed on order about two weeks ago and I have to say that I was very impressed with your quick delivery time. My daughter was not excited with the [previous] materials I was using for Reading, but when All About Reading came in the mail, reading was the best thing in the world to her. She loves reading her books to her younger siblings and absolutely loves the program. Thank you for taking the time to create a product that really involves all the aspects of learning and making it fun all at the same time. We look forward to Reading Time now!

All About Reading, Level 1 is a homeschooler's Holy Grail when it comes to teaching reading. One area homeschooling parents are constantly concerned with is teaching a child how to read. The process of teaching can be long and difficult or so we have all been told. It is what we prepare for so when the process is arduous we rarely seek an alternative. If you thought teaching reading was anything but a privilege then you could be using the wrong program. I have a student who is difficult to teach reading and she is excelling. She is having fun and asks to do All About Reading, Level 1. The program is so easy to use and delightful I thought for sure I would need to supplement but I was wrong. Today she read a Dr. Seuss book and I was thrilled. I wish I had this program when my oldest was struggling to read.

I ordered AAR pre-level last year and my then 5 yo and 3 yo had a blast with it. We are still going through AAR pre-level with my almost 4yo, but have now picked up AAR level one. It is a perfect blend of all the different approaches for me. It has just enough hands-on, but not too much. I also like the review type sheet that allows the student to practice reading the words worked on in the last few lessons. I love the readers too! They are cute little stories without being hoaky, or too simple for my daughter. I can't wait to go through this whole program with my younger son as well!

I have tried so many phonics programs over the last 3-4 years that I've lost count. My oldest son still struggles with reading (although we are using AAS--on level 2 now--and it's definitely helping him immensely!) and I didn't want my next son to struggle so much. We tried 2 of the same programs that I had lying around and they just weren't working. He has been doing AAS1 for about a month, and he's doing well with it, so I decided to take the $$ plunge and buy AAR1. We've done 3 lessons and already I am amazed! This child is reading words with minimal effort! We have been working on blending for months with our old program and the words just weren't coming. Yet, after just the first lesson, he was reading words like "mat" and "Sam" so easily! And he's having so much fun, too (the space ice cream really helped! . Thank you so much Marie for writing this wonderful program! And thank you for a great staff that is so helpful! My only wish is that you had the other steps already so that I could help my struggling reader!

All About Reading has brought the fun to our phonics program. My son doesn’t even realize he’s learning to read when we work with All About Reading. The lessons are well laid out, which means there is minimal prep on my part, making it truly open and go. There are times where I’m having so much fun I forget it’s school time.

Both of my daughters really love the games and activities. They are creative and fun, and a great way for kids to learn without really feeling like they're learning. The monster game is a huge favorite. The games are fun enough that they could easily be played again and again if your child needed a bit of extra review before moving on. We're so excited to go through level 1 together, and we'll be looking forward to level 2 when it is released.

My DD (7 yrs and a 1st grader) has strabismus, one of her eyes crosses to the center, causing her to see double without her eye patch. Looking at small text for longer than a few minutes causes frustration which is what has been happening with the reading program we were using until we started ARR 1. The text size on the Fluency Practice and on the letter tiles are big enough for her to read easily.
The lessons she has mastered so far have been review but we will be headed into new territory soon. We are currently using All About Spelling Level 1 so she is very familiar with the letter tiles and how to use them, so adding AAR 1 to our day was a snap. The Monster from Lesson 3 is used over and over. DD loves feeding him. I have to make new bones from to him to eat because the ones he currently eats have been mastered.

The layout of the lessons in All About Reading Level 1 make this reading program a teacher's dream come true. You will love the step-by-step directions, hands-on components to bring the reading process alive with your child, and the added benefit of knowing you CAN teach your child to read and have fun along the way. Whether you have a child who is a beginning reader of one who is a reluctant reader, the All About Reading Level 1 program is a wonderful tool to help in the in the reading process.

We absolutely adore All About Reading in this house. My 8 year old son struggled so much before this program. His self esteem had crashed and he would cry when we pulled out a book. He knew all his letter sounds and we had tried 3 different phonics programs with no success. He would just reach a certain point and then break down into tears.
When AAR Pre-1 came out I struggled with whether or not it was too young for him. Not so. He fell in love with Ziggy and the match games. We worked through the program at a consistent pace and saw marked improvement. He learned something new in reading everyday. Those Big Five Skills were so important and he just had not gotten them from the other programs. By the time we finished the Level Pre-1 program, his self esteem had jumped tremendously.
Now my son is progressing nicely through AAR 1, and I predict he will be caught up by the end of the school year. It was a seamless transition from the Pre-1 program, and he was very excited. He was just missing some pieces to the reading puzzle.
This program is so much fun, and he even told his father over the weekend that he loves school now and wants to do reading everyday. We are so thankful for AAS and AAR and will continue to use them for years. Marie has done an excellent and thorough job. The products are very high quality and have such charm to them. My favorite part is they are open and go. Everything I need is right there in the kit. Plus, I can use the same letter tiles with AAS and both programs work together. It relieves any stress I may have about teaching reading instead of adding to it. Their customer service rivals any homeschooling company on the market. They are hands down the best!

I've used AAS for 3 years and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of AAR 1 for my 5yo daughter. I must say, I'm so glad I waited for it and didn't choose an alternate. We're now on Lesson 6 and I'm so impressed with many features. For us, the activities have been just right for my dd. They are short and fun. I like the word and phonics reviews at the beginning of each lesson via flashcards. I have seen my dd get faster and faster reading the words. I like the fact that we're not spending loads of time on reading lessons, yet my dd is progressing and enjoying it. We just finished our first story in the first reader and my dd insisted on standing in front of the room and reading (performing) the first story, bowing at the end. I love to see her enjoying the process of learning to read. I highly recommend this program!
