Ziggy puts the sparkle in our program! Kids love him because he learns right along with them, making mistakes that they get to correct. So instead of just “being taught,” children help the charming Ziggy learn the lesson, too, making kids feel empowered, successful, and eager to learn more.
Parents will like Ziggy too—he’s easy to manipulate so you can give him real personality and expression.
Ziggy is 13” tall with an 8” head and room for all hand sizes.

We have been involved in puppets for years now, and my son takes a regular class on puppetry, so when I realized that I could combine his reading program with puppets, I knew we needed Ziggy. My 8 year old son was working on Level 1 and was excited about adding a puppet to his collection . . .
Purely as a puppet, Ziggy is excellent. His face is expressive, and interesting, and you can give him a lot of personality by folding your hands, angling his mouth, and changing how he acts. He is a large puppet too, so parents can use him without squeezing their hands into a tiny space. We have used Ziggy constantly for the summer, and he looks just like when we got him . . .
Using a puppet while teaching the lesson allows me to play the review games with my son, who is the youngest of 5, and doesn't have any other siblings learning to read to play with. Even though my son knows that I can read, when Ziggy doesn't know a word, or struggles with b and d issues, he loves teaching Ziggy the correct rules, and feeling like he has made progress. It changes the lesson from me teaching him, to Ziggy and him learning together, if that makes sense and just adds a very fun element to reading, which has been a battle since kindergarten. In addition, if I see that my son is feeling frustrated, or is tired, then we can pull out Ziggy to help during the fluency sheets (reading every other line, but making mistakes, so my son has to read along), or during the reviews of the words.
It is the most fun if you give Ziggy a specific personality (Our Ziggy is silly, and very fond of Zebras, apples, Africa, and always things he can do things, but is forgetful. He generally has trouble with the things that my son has trouble with, but more so. He doesn't like Lions, meat, or caves) If you have a second puppet, then the two can interact as well. My son uses an Owl puppet that is wise and calm and very different from Ziggy . . . but it is fun to see how he interacts. We usually do not use puppets during the body of the lesson, but only for the review at the beginning, or the games / fluency sheets at the end, depending on how much time we have. They do make the lesson take longer, but it is much more fun!

Ziggy the Zebra has revolutionized our home by motivating the children to do their schoolwork without grumbling. My son LOVES doing his lessons with me for All About Reading because Ziggy helps him out.

The highlight of the All About Reading Pre-1 lessons for us is always Ziggy. Ziggy is a bit confused, you see. She always says the wrong word, or leaves off the beginning sound, or some such silliness. I don’t know if my daughter even realizes that she is learning because she is so busy helping Ziggy say the right word. Now she begs to “do Ziggy” every single day!

My twin boys were all over this program the moment it arrived. The Ziggy Zebra puppet is adorable, and they take it all over the house, talking with him about rhyming things and looking for letter sounds of words -- it’s pretty cute! They are always asking, “Can we do the next letter, Mom?” They are eager to explore what is next and always want to do more. I have also been working with them on some speech difficulties that they have, and it’s quite interesting that when Ziggy asks them to do something difficult, they try harder!

If you already own a puppet, an index card storage box, and a tote, the Basic Package is all you would need—but, trust me: you NEED a Ziggy the Zebra! The puppet really makes your child EXCITED to do reading time!

I wasn't sure at first if I would use the zebra puppet because it seemed a little silly, but then I discovered that the zebra is a must! Ziggy Zebra is such a good teacher for my little girls -- they love him and never tire of listening to what he has to say. Before Ziggy began teaching, I was never able to hold their attention for so long.

Mrs. Zebra (aka Ziggy Zebra) was a huge hit in my household. Although an “optional” component of All About Reading, for my children she wasn’t. She was necessary. She makes the program for my own five-year-old, and will be the factor that draws in my three-year-old in another year or two when I use it with him. Even now, thanks to the zebra, he paid attention on some days!

My four-year-old daughter was not a very vocal child. Now she wasn’t a quiet child by any means, but she only talked when she needed to. Since getting hold of Ziggy, she has started talking a lot more. She has to talk to make Ziggy come to life. This was an added bonus to using All About Reading that I never would have thought of before.

My son adores the zebra puppet, and we found other ways to work him into lessons so we could let him visit almost every day. My son directed me to use a boy voice for Ziggy, which was interesting and funny.

The zebra puppet is so soft and adorable, all my kids want to play with it. My daughter made sure everyone knew it was HERS! So it lives on top of her workboxes -- and she loves all the rhyming games Zig-Zag plays with her.

Ziggy, a wonderful zebra puppet, brings such joy to children and encourages interaction with words, phonics, and many of the language activities. He was our children's favorite. When the box arrived, they fought over who would play with him first. He definitely was a great addition to reading times. Even my older daughter, who is beyond this level in reading, enjoyed listening to the lessons with Ziggy.

The day our All About Reading Deluxe package arrived, the girls were smitten with Ziggy the Zebra puppet. In fact, he is currently AWOL somewhere in this house. He has become a favorite friend not only for school time, but also for play time. They love having Ziggy help with the lessons (he can be rather zany), and it seems that they do retain more of the information that is imparted to them when Ziggy is a teacher’s aide. Ziggy has even been taken and cuddled in bed at night. You could say he is well loved!
