Penguins can be found in parts of Antarctica, Australia, New Zealand, South America, and Africa. Using a world map or globe, locate all the places where penguins live. If desired, mark the locations on the map with penguin stickers.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n\r\n

Big or Small?<\/h3>\r\n\r\n
The largest species of penguin is the Emperor, which stands about 4 feet tall. The smallest species of penguin is the Little penguin, which is about 12 inches tall. Using a measuring tape, mark off two spots\u2014one at 12 inches and one at 48 inches\u2014on a wall or a large piece of poster board. Measure a variety of household objects\u2014or even the family pet!\u2014and compare them to the size of the Little and Emperor penguins.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n\r\n

Balance the Egg<\/h3>\r\n\r\n
After the female Emperor penguin lays an egg, the male Emperor penguin keeps it warm by balancing it on his feet for 64 days. Try to balance a plastic toy egg or a small stuffed toy on your feet. Waddle around the house like a penguin and see how far you can get without dropping your egg.<\/p>\r\n<\/li>\r\n\r\n

It gets very cold where Emperor penguins live; the average temperature is -4\u00b0 Fahrenheit. Find the -4\u00b0 mark on the outdoor thermometer at your house.
