This multisensory approach, combined with a built-in review system and reinforcement activities, ensures that students retain what they learn and understand how to apply it in practical situations.
In a practical, hands-on way, your student will learn:
The multisensory learning tools and activities included in the program help your student master important spelling concepts.
The Flashcards provide a visual and hands-on way to help your student learn and review phonograms, words, and spelling rules.
The Spelling Review Box helps you organize the flashcards so you can quickly see which words, phonograms, and spelling rules your student still needs to learn and review. (Flashcards and dividers are included; you supply the 3x5" index card box, or you can purchase our custom Spelling Review Box.)
The Segmenting Words activity helps your student identify the individual sounds in a word so that he can spell more easily and accurately.
Concept-oriented spelling lists that are grouped by similar phonograms and spelling rules accelerate learning by organizing ideas in the student’s mind and allowing the student to concentrate on and master one or two main concepts before moving on.
Key Cards clearly present key ideas, concepts, and spelling rules that help your student thoroughly understand why a word is spelled the way it is and how to apply that knowledge to many other words.
The More Words and Dictate Phrases sections reinforce current and previously learned concepts, increase the student’s repertoire of words, and allow the student to apply his knowledge in practical situations.
Tips for the teacher anticipate and provide answers to your questions and give you on-the-spot strategies for helping your student overcome stumbling blocks. Worked seamlessly into the lessons, tips are placed right where you need them, when you need them, so you can continue your teaching uninterrupted.
The Progress Chart gives your student a visual reminder of how far he has come and motivates him to master the next step.
Features are arranged in three easy-to-follow sections:
Review: The Review section provides continual review of phonograms, spelling words, and important concepts so your student can advance confidently from one lesson to the next without the frustration of having to re-learn previous material. All About Spelling doesn’t “teach it and forget it.”
New Teaching: The step-by-step lesson plans lay out new material clearly and concisely and save you valuable time. You don’t need a degree in education or hours of planning every night to teach All About Spelling—all the work has been done for you.
Reinforcement: The important Reinforcement section gives your student the opportunity to apply what he has learned and to use that knowledge in practical situations.
By the end of Level 1, your student will be able to write phrases such as:
The 24 steps of Level 1 progress in a logical, sequential order. Through direct instruction, students learn exactly what they need to know in order to spell well.

I just want to tell you how much AAS has helped my daughter. She is 13 1/2 years old and didn't really learn to read well until she started this program. Recently we found other problems and started seeing an Occupational Therapist and a Speech Language Pathologist. Both of them were completely blown away when they tested her because her ability was far higher than her disability should have allowed. They credited it to the work we have done with AAS. They were not familiar with the program but now sing its praises. I lent the Speech Pathologist my copy of Level one to review, she wants to use it with her clients. When she tried to work with my daughter using different methods she saw that they didn't work and told me that she would work with her on other areas and let me stick to what I am doing.
The greatest help is the way you attach every sound to a rule and not to a word. She now can remember the rule and use it elsewhere. When it is attached to a word she doesn't recognize it outside that word. Thank you so much All About Spelling!!!!! You have given us HOPE, ENCOURAGEMENT AND RESULTS.

I wanted to take a minute to personally thank you for your amazing spelling curriculum. Since purchasing AAS1 and 2, I have witnessed my daughter build a solid foundation for spelling. Her reading has improved exponentially and her confidence at tackling "tough" spelling words is truly awe-inspiring. And if that wasn't enough I am finally learning the "why" behind our melting-pot of a language. I feel my wheels turning and things are clicking into place. I love these "a-ha" moments.
Everyday she amazes me with her spelling prowess. Just the other day my daughter (age 5) spelled 'Astronomy' correctly the first time, all by herself. (Her father is an amateur astronomer so its a word she hears often) But it floored me nonetheless. I am a believer in your product and can't wait to start AAR with my other daughter.

I just wanted to say that I am SO glad that I ordered the All About Reading short stories books to go along with Level 1. My daughter has always fought me when it came to reading so I stopped our curriculum and decided to try these along with the Spelling Lessons. Today she was begging me to read the stories before we did the lesson. She LOVES the stories, the pictures are wonderful and they have really been building her confidence and love of reading. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

I LOVE THIS PROGRAM! We are all blessed! My youngest son finds rules in his reading all the time. My oldest, who is an avid reader, has progressed quickly through the program but really is getting holes filled in as we go along. And,one of my children had a problem reading and writing before this program. Once we started pullling down sounds, something clicked and he got it. His reading has improved tremendously and he is wanting to read now. I am also learing a whole lot!

Very good program. Rules are learned, practiced, and mastered. High retention rate for the kids and I can see them stop, think, and apply the spelling rules they've learned so far. My son, especially likes the Dictate Phrases. He tries to connect the various phrases into one long sentence and see how far he gets. The fact that he can spell the phrases correctly gives him confidence when he has to do a bit of writing in other subjects.
I am also learning and re-learning spelling rules ! The kids like to see that mommy is not perfect and she too needs to learn ... even at her age ! I'm really enjoying teaching this program and learning together with my kids.

We're almost finished with Level 1 and it's easily the best spelling program I've found. My older son used to cry every day with Spelling Power and with this program he's happy to do the lessons and he's learned so much! His confidence in writing has greatly improved! So happy I found it.

When we first started using this program, my daughter thought it was way too easy. What she didn't realize was she was acually learning spelling rules for the first time. This has made the world of difference at our house. (no more tears because she can't memorize a word). Best program hands down!!!!!

I am IN LOVE with your curriculum. As a veteran homeschooler with kids pre-K to already graduated, I am thrilled to have found your program. I saw an improvement in my eleven year old's spelling inside of ten days. Just amazing. Wonderful, wonderful! Thank you for making spelling easy and FUN!

This is the first time I have ever written a review for any curriculum! I wish I would have known about this program when we started homeschooling 5 years ago! We just started using All About Spelling this year with my 4th grader and 2nd grader. I started them both in Level 1 and was concerned that my 4th grader would be upset about that, but he wasn't! I do his lesson time and then go on to my 2nd grader. It is wonderful to see where their spelling "gaps" are. I have tried the typical weekly spelling list and found that they were memorizing for the test and then forgetting. Correctly spelling words during writing time was PAINFUL! They could not do it.
With your program I have seen a dramatic improvement in both of my boys. My 4th grader finished Level 1 in just a month so we are moving to Level 2 starting tomorrow. The combination of spelling rules, phonics, letter tiles and writing have made a huge difference.
I really began to notice when we started doing the dictation exercises how much they really were comprehending. It was like a light came on that said, "Oh, I am supposed to use my spelling strategies in my writing!" It is so exciting to hear them saying each sound individually while they are spelling and to watch them start counting the syllables in words even when we are not doing our spelling time!
I can't say enough about this program. I am recommending it to everyone I know! I have finally found a spelling program that works effectively!
Love, love, love it!

We just finished level 1. One of my learners struggles with spelling and the mastery approach is beneficial b/c no "failing" or grading is involved. My learners need to see, touch and say the words to master them. We are starting level 2 and I can't wait for them(my 2 learners)to
see the results!

Today my son and I worked on lesson 24 and I just had to take a few minutes out of my day to tell you how excited I am. My son is reading fairly well (he's 7), but one thing that was holding him back was vowels. Often, in long words, he wouldn't know whether a vowel was long or short. I was often perplexed, wishing I knew of some phonics rule to help him work it out. Well, today we both learned the open/closed syllable: long/short vowel rule. Knowing this is going to help his reading really take off.
It isn't just lesson 24 that has made me a happy homeschooling mum; the whole programme has been such a breath of fresh air. My son enjoys doing spelling now (so do I!) and has the learning is truly sticking. We use Writing with Ease and I can see him using what he's learned when he does dictation.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I am very impressed with the product so far. The lesson plans are clear and easy to follow, and the use of different techniques keeps learning fresh and fun. The student I am working with is retaining information well, and enjoying working with AAS. For me, the only drawback (beyond the control of AAS) is the price of shipping to Canada. I am planning to continue with this program, and will bundle the rest of the Levels to save on shipping costs.

I love All About Spelling. It will be my spelling program forever and ever, amen. I love AAS so much, I became an affiliate and have written reviews for online homeschool magazines. I can't wait for more levels of All About Reading to come out. I have purchased All About Spelling Levels One and Two, as well as All About Reading Pre-Level One. We also have all the readers that have been published so far.

Both of my children are loving this program and for the first time, we have an organized, effective method to teach them how to spell. They are really taking off with their spelling thanks to All About Spelling. I am ordering Level 2 today!

I wish I could have called you when I first opened up your book. I squealed with delight as I realized what was in my hands! I went on and on to my husband about how I had FINALLY found what I was searching for. I know I am not unique in wanting the best method for teaching these skills. I also KNOW that there will be so many people just like myself that will jump with joy when they find your All About Spelling series. Hands down, your book is so beautifully put together and incredibly professional! I love the easy steps and I enjoy the helpful hints that are placed all along the way.
My best compliment goes to the method you have chosen for teaching spelling. All About Spelling incorporates so many of the important elements I was specifically looking for—visual (flashcards), auditory, hands-on (letter tiles and tokens), questions, writing exercises, a method for tracking and recognizing levels of accomplishment, and a simple step-by-step method for teaching.
To be quite honest with you, All About Spelling is EXACTLY what I was hoping to find. The only book I could find that comes even close was Writing Road to Reading, yet for me it still lacked some of the elements that you have so thoughtfully captured. The series could easily double for teaching reading as well as spelling. When I began my quest for a proper method for teaching these principles, I started searching for "methods to teach your child to read." I found that most sources I came across were incomplete. It wasn't until I felt inspired to look for "spelling methods" that I found your website and the completeness I was hoping to teach. Marie, I have to hand it to you, the book is WONDERFUL!
Please know how grateful I am for your talents in putting together these books. My three little boys (and just recently, one more on the way) will all benefit from you and the All About Spelling method. I have no hesitation to recommend your book to my family and friends. It is more than I expected to find when I pulled up your web page.

Outstanding products and customer service! This is a program that works and I HIGHLY recommend it to everyone looking for a great spelling program and beautiful, enjoyable early readers. The reader books will be treasured and passed down for years to come in our home! And we now have our second child going through AAS Level 1. Both children have had such great success with it and I know my younger two will as well when they are ready for it! Thank you so much!

I am so grateful to have found this program. My son's confidence and ability to spell is now out of understanding and not merely memorization. We are at the end of Level 1 and are ready to move on to Level 2. I wish I had found it sooner!

On December 6th I began homeschooling, again! I home schooled all 4 of my sons from k-12, so I have done this before. But this is my grandchild, I homeschooled her in first grade. She couldn't hold her memory for 2 minutes. Then I tried her back in school this year. They had less success than I did. So, anyhow, she is now reading! She loves her spelling best of all. Every time we enter a new area, she says... no one ever showed me this before... and is thrilled. I bought 5-6 packs of stickers, and daily she gets to add stickers to her posters... one is the phonograms, the other is the steps... that just makes her day. She will work for a sticker! She is walking right through this... I did teach her phonics, just not this way. But, even with slight new areas, she is thrilled and bouncing right in there. And suddenly she is recognizing words everywhere, not just in her reading book. And she is sounding out words that I know that she shouldn't know yet. We are pleased. I am sometimes tired of the repetitions, until I see her progress in areas that are not expected, and it is finally gelling for her!

My daughter, now in 3rd grade, has moderate to severe auditory processing disorder along with some dyslexia. She especially has trouble with memory and sequencing, making spelling an absolute nightmare for her. Even if she memorized enough to pass a spelling test one week, by the next she had forgotten every word she had learned. In turn it affected other areas of school such as Language and Penmanship, as it was impossible to read anything she spelled. She is more than aware of her trouble and it was beginning to pull down her self-esteem as she watched other kids her age progress without any problem. I pulled her out of school and began to homeschool her, as I felt it the best choice for her. I had the idea myself about breaking down spelling with phonetics, trying to make it easier for her than memorizing a long string of letters in order, as I realized part of her problem was that she did not recognize and use phonetic patterns the way most children do, even though she had been taught phonics. But making a solid, cohesive curriculum for her on my own was a daunting task, so I turned to the internet for help, and found your program.
This program has been perfect for her in every way. She still has to work hard, but becoming a good speller is now a possible reality for her and not a wistful dream. She has made it through the 1st level in about a month. The improvement in her other work can be measured in leaps and bounds already, but the boost in her self esteem is the greatest reward, and I am excited to start the next level with her. With our hard work together, I'm hopeful for her to catch up with her grade level by next year. Thank you for helping to make her future bright.
